Mark's Story

I started in roofing in 2002 because a mentor showed me that a well-installed roof is what stands between a family and water, ice, and wind damage. It's not glamorous work — but it's consequential work. When it's done right, a homeowner can sleep through a Minnesota thunderstorm without worry. When it's done wrong, they're dealing with water damage, mold, and insurance headaches for years.

I started Summit in 2008 during the housing downturn because I believed there was a market for a roofing company that actually cared about workmanship. Most contractors in this market compete on price. I decided to compete on quality — and prove that the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Our GAF Master Elite certification isn't something we got by attending a lunch-and-learn. It requires continuous training, quality standards, and customer satisfaction scores that GAF verifies annually. Fewer than 2% of US roofing contractors have it. We're proud of it — and we back it up with every installation.

I live in Golden Valley with my wife and son. We're Minnesota people — we know what these winters do to houses, and we take protecting them seriously. Every roof we install is a roof I'd be comfortable putting on my own home.

What We Stand For

  • Honesty over salesWe tell you what your roof actually needs — not the most expensive option.
  • Documentation over assumptionEvery inspection includes photos and a written report. You should know exactly what's happening with your roof.
  • Our own crew — alwaysWe do not subcontract installation. The people who show up to install your roof are Summit employees trained to Summit standards.
  • Warranty we actually stand behindA warranty is only as good as the contractor backing it. We've been in business 22 years and plan to be here for the next 22.

Our Certifications — In Detail

We believe homeowners deserve to understand what contractor certifications actually mean — and what they get you in terms of warranties and accountability.

GAF Master Elite

GAF Master Elite is the highest designation a roofing contractor can earn from GAF, the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. Fewer than 2% of all roofing contractors in the United States achieve this status. It requires proof of proper licensing, insurance, ongoing training, and demonstrated customer satisfaction. As a GAF Master Elite contractor, Summit can offer GAF's Golden Pledge warranty — a 50-year, non-prorated, fully transferable warranty on both materials and workmanship. No other GAF warranty comes close to this level of coverage.

Owens Corning Platinum Preferred

Owens Corning's Platinum Preferred designation recognizes contractors who have demonstrated exceptional installation quality and business practices. As a Platinum Preferred contractor, Summit can offer Owens Corning's SureStart PLUS warranty, which covers both shingles and workmanship for up to 50 years. Owens Corning requires ongoing training and customer satisfaction data to maintain this status.

CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster

CertainTeed's SELECT ShingleMaster program authorizes contractors to install CertainTeed's full system warranty — the SureStart warranty, which covers both materials and labor. ShingleMaster contractors must demonstrate installation proficiency, carry appropriate insurance, and maintain licensing requirements. This certification allows us to offer CertainTeed's longest warranties to our customers.

BBB A+ Accredited

Summit Roofing has maintained an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau since 2009. BBB accreditation requires demonstrating honest advertising, transparent business practices, and a commitment to resolving customer complaints promptly and in good faith. Our A+ rating reflects 15+ years of customer interactions, resolved issues, and verified reviews.

Minnesota Licensed #BC-789012

Minnesota requires residential roofing contractors to hold a valid residential building contractor license. Obtaining this license requires passing an examination, demonstrating financial responsibility, and maintaining adequate insurance. Our license #BC-789012 is active and in good standing. You can verify any Minnesota contractor's license at the MN Department of Labor and Industry website.

$5M Liability + Full Worker's Comp

Summit carries $5 million in general liability insurance and full worker's compensation coverage for every employee on every job site. This matters for you: if a worker is injured on your property and the contractor doesn't carry worker's comp, you can be held liable. Never let an uninsured contractor work on your roof. We provide certificates of insurance on request before every job.

Work with a contractor you can trust.

Free inspections, transparent estimates, and work backed by the strongest warranties in the industry.
